CHANGE TO GENRE- PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER
In our group we decided to change our genre to best suit our ideas. We are more comfortable to using psychological thrillers a genre than dram, because it gives ore space to be creative. We realized drama needed a lot in depth analysis which would not be conveyed through our opening scenes. Using this genre allows us to be more creative with the editing process.
This genre is very similar to Gothic and detective fiction in the sense of sometimes having a "dissolving sense of reality", moral ambiguity, and complex and tortured relationships between obsessive and pathological characters.
Psychological Thrillers were usually for 18+ due to the considerable amount of violence and horror, however there are exceptions where a huge pool of viewers are coming from 15+. Due to our society changes, attitudes have also changed on movies. Younger and younger people are 'growing up faster', due to social media and mean movies are watched by these young individual. For example, 100 years ago nudity would be considered taboo, however as society as evolved, so has movie screenings. Therefore we have to analyse in which way we can most relate to a huge variety of people.
People enjoy watching psychological thrillers because of the thrill it gives one. Physical or emotional arousal is usually the main factor for watching these type of movies. 'People like to be scared, when they feel safe' - Alfred Hitchcock
