Focus Group Analysis

Focus Group Our focus group consisted of three different groups composed of a: Teenager group Ethnicity group Gender group We asked 5 questions after the group viewed the opening sequence. These questions were: How did the movie reflect the 21st century daily life of a teen? What do you think the main storyline of the movie will be? Was the main character someone you expected to be in such a movie? Did the opening sequence resemble a psychological thriller genre movie? Any parts which were confusing or did not make sense? These questions allowed us to understand which audience our opening sequence related to the most. As we correctly predicted it was the teenager group which showed the most promise. We believed that the ethnic and gender would be mixed as the opening sequence did not favour one specific group. However, due to the setting and how it was portrayed ti clearly was more attractive to the teenager group.

Analysis of Responses

This first question we asked to see which genre was predominately favored. For example, we expected that the sub genre psychological was preferred the most. Our response for this question was one sided as al of our participants chose one option. 'Detailed storyline with a realistic plot', this again relates to our type of genre as psychological thriller has similar story-lines to drama. As i have researched drama is more based on real life interactions, to make it connect with the audience more. Using this we can identify which movies we can take inspiration from. For example, we can take hints from movies such as Hannibal, which allows us top see a top Hollywood thriller type movies. Again taking information on our audiences favorite actor/actresses allow us to see how a characters should be built. For example, you will not have a superhero type character in a psychological thriller. Therefore

Target audience description

Target Audience Age group 16+ Young adults Students Change-sympathizers Our preferred audience would be a young adult audience. So this ranges from 17-40, as we believe this age group would be most suited and interested in attending our type of film. Our genre is a psychological thriller and the style we will use a modern 21st century setting. This will involve a bustling city life or a ordinary city type school. This will also relate to the regional identities of the inner city young adults who can relate to the surroundings, thus building a connection between the characters situation. The narrative will be a first person account, which means the audience are taken through the story as the character is experiencing it. This means the audience are immersed within the story which again can build up a connection between the audience and characters. I chose the young adults as they would relate to the story line the most. For example, it is set in a school which already relates

Taxi Driver Editing The film ‘Taxi Driver’ used editing to add mystery.  The beginning scene starts with text that is written in a bright yellow font, which correspond to the taxi sign itself. At  the start when the taxi appears through fog, which gets the audience’s attention straight away as it is not expected. They also mix up into including a slight shadow, which represents when the taxi light is on offering to pick up customers.  This mysterious taxi adds speculation as it does not seem like a normal taxi. However, this is a very good use of the technique as it allows the audience to relate to real life situations. This is because most people do not pay attention to where the taxi comes from, it seems to 'just appear'. Sound Sound is used to build tension and mystery.  Non-diagetic sounds do this because the audience do not know where the sounds are coming from. Different moods of music represent the taxi driver’s mood throughout his work shift as it is as easy
