The BBFC is the UK’s regulator of film and video. The films and videos are regulated by having age ratings, such as U, 12A, 18R etc. The BBFC have legal powers to rate, and sometimes cut or even reject works. The BBFC is a independent body which means the government are not attached to the ratings of films. They have been an organisation since 1912.

Drugs
Horror
Imitable behavior
Language
Nudity 
Sex
Theme 
Violence

Image result for pg filmA U film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and above. U films should be set within a positive framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.






PG-Movies:

Image result for pg film definitionPG Parental Guidance. General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children A PG film should not unsettle a child aged around eight or older. Unaccompanied children of any age may watch, but parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger, or more sensitive, children.

The 12A rating is only used for films shown in cinemas. Films rated 12A are suitable for children aged 12 and over. However, people younger than 12 may see a 12A so long as they are accompanied by an adult. In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult.

15-Movies:

Image result for 18 rated films15 – Suitable only for 15 years and over. No one younger than 15 may see a 15 film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a 15 rated video work. These movies depending on the genre start becoming more violent, sexual or having adult references

Films rated 18 are for adults. No one under 18 is allowed to view or buy an 18 rated film. No constraints are held in these movies. So themes such as having strong language, sex scenes, drugs, blood and gore can be implemented within the film.
